Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences - Salford Royal Hospital, part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust - for a part time Consultant in Neurology and Stroke Medicine.
The role will contribute to the provision of a high quality Neurology and Stroke service to the Greater Manchester conurbation.
· Assessment and treatment of new and follow up patients in outpatient clinics.
· Assessment of ad hoc attenders as necessary.
· Ward consultations on acute neurology ward, neurosurgery, and neurorehabilitation wards.
· Clinical admin.
· Attendance at weekly neuroradiology meeting.
· Hyperacute and Acute Stroke care delivery
· Rapid access TIA assessments
The Stroke service is based at Salford Royal with Neurology principally based at the same site with spoke services at other sites within GM.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a large team of over 50 Consultant Neurologists at Salford Royal Hospital who provide outpatient and inpatient liaison services across Greater Manchester, covering as population of 3.2 million. The teams are well supported by middle grade and junior medical tiers, as well as Specialist Nurse teams across the range of Neurological sub-specialties.
The post will also involve general neurology outpatients in a spoke of MCCN and liaison inpatient neurology in MCCN or in a GM spoke.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- A higher qualification e.g. MRCP or equivalent
- Completion (or within 6 months) of CCT/ higher specialist training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Participation in management training course
- Participation in an advanced IT training course
Professional Registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration with General Medical Council
- Inclusion on the specialist register/ admission to the register within 6 months of interview
- Licenced with the GMC
- To be formally recognised as a clinical supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards
Desirable criteria
- To be formally recognized as Educational Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards
- Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical experience and expertise in General Neurology
- Evidence of continuing personal and professional development and keeps up to date with medical advances
- Knowledge and appreciation of core legal, ethical and political issues which govern medical practice
- Experience of recent and current research/ relevant publications
