Job overview
This is a replacement post that will support the continued delivery of our comprehensive 360-degree skull base service.
The successful applicant will focus on lateral skull base pathology, with vestibular schwannoma surgery and facial pain forming two major areas of clinical practice. In addition, the post holder will join the NF2 service and play an important role in the multidisciplinary management of these patients, including auditory brainstem implantation.
Main duties of the job
Salford Royal has a large and expanding skull base department, and the successful candidate will become a key member of this specialist service. We are looking for an outstanding individual with the expertise to manage a broad range of skull base pathologies and with experience in a variety of open skull base surgical techniques. Please note that this post does not involve endoscopic skull base surgery or the management of pituitary disorders.
We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual who will help us continue to provide the highest standards of care for our patients. Drive, flexibility and excellent team-working skills are essential, alongside a strong commitment to multidisciplinary working.
You must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work cohesively as part of a multidisciplinary team. To be eligible for consideration, you must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of your CCT date at the time of interview.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate significant experience and expertise in the management of lateral skull base pathology, vestibular schwannoma surgery, and facial pain, as well as experience relevant to the care of patients with NF2.
It is expected that the successful candidate will support the on-going development of the Neurosurgery Department, supporting with Service Improvement as appropriate.

Registration / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
- FRCS or equivalent
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview
- Completion of CCST/ higher specialist training or equivalent in Neurosurgery
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical experience and expertise in Neurosurgery
- Subspecialty fellowship training in skull base surgery
- Demonstrable evidence of an interest in skull base pathology (fellowships, courses etc.)
- Evidence of experience of orbital pathology
- Experience in the management of facial pain and other neurovascular compressive syndromes
- Experience of recent and current research/ relevant publications. Experience of presenting and publishing skull base-themed research.
