Job overview
The Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences, based at Salford Royal Hospital and part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking to appoint a Consultant Neurosurgeon with a specialist interest in Neurovascular Surgery to join our established and highly regarded Neurosurgery Department.
This is a replacement post that will support the continued delivery and development of our comprehensive neurovascular service.
The successful applicant will have expertise in the management of complex cerebrovascular pathology, including intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), cavernous malformations, and other vascular disorders of the brain and spinal cord.
The post holder will work closely with colleagues in Interventional Neuroradiology, Neurology, Stroke Medicine, Neurocritical Care and Rehabilitation as part of a well-established multidisciplinary neurovascular team, providing both elective and emergency care.
In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to regional neurovascular services, training, research, and service development, helping to maintain and enhance the Centre's reputation for excellence in patient care and clinical outcomes.
Main duties of the job
This is a locum post to cover an extended period of leave for one of the neurovascular consultants. The period of cover required is 3 months.
The successful applicant will be expected to cover all aspects of the absent consultant’s practice. This includes; an elective neurovascular operating list; neurovascular and general clinic; ward rounds; neurosurgical on call; a weekly endovascular list and a 1 in 7 24hour thrombectomy on call service.
The applicant will work alongside the other 2 neurovascular surgeons and partake in the acute take of emergency neurovascular referrals.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to work at the level of an immediate post-CCT consultant with independent practice across both the neurovascular and endovascular aspects of the job. They will be supported by the current neurovascular surgeons and interventional radiologists for complex work.

Registration / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
- FRCS or equivalent
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview
- Completion of CCST/ higher specialist training or equivalent in Neurosurgery
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical experience and expertise in Neurosurgery
- Subspecialty fellowship training in neurovascular surgery
- Demonstrable evidence of experience and capability in endovascular intervention -active TIRTL logbook
- Experience of recent and current formal endovascular training (eg EXMINT/ECMINT)
