Applications are invited for the 1-year post of Neuro-Oncology Fellow at Salford Royal Hospital, Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA), commencing 5 August 2026.
The Neurosurgical Unit within the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN) at Salford Royal Hospital is one of the largest and busiest neurosurgical centres in the UK, delivering specialist care across the full range of cranial and spinal neurosurgical services.
The successful candidate will join the Neuro-Oncology team and work closely with the Consultant Neuro-Oncology Neurosurgeons, providing clinical, operative and multidisciplinary support within a high-volume tertiary referral service. The fellowship offers extensive exposure to the assessment and surgical management of both primary and secondary brain tumours, complex spinal oncology, awake craniotomy, image-guided surgery and interdisciplinary neuro-oncology care.
Main duties of the job
The Fellow will play an integral role within the wider neurosurgical department, working alongside consultants, trainees and specialist practitioners across the service. The Unit hosts a comprehensive range of neurosurgical subspecialties, including functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery, complex spine, skull base, vascular neurosurgery and neurotrauma, providing opportunities to gain experience within a busy, well-established and high-performing neurosciences centre.
A key feature of the fellowship is active participation in the regional Neuro-Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), working closely with colleagues from neuroradiology, neuropathology, neuro-oncology, radiotherapy and specialist nursing services. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in clinical research, audit, service development and teaching activities, and will have opportunities to contribute to ongoing academic and quality improvement projects within the department.
This fellowship is ideally suited to candidates who have completed neurosurgical training or are approaching completion of training and wish to develop advanced expertise in neuro-oncology within a nationally recognised tertiary neuroscience service.
