The NCA is seeking an inspirational and innovative digital leader.

The role involves advocating for and supporting user focused digital transformation externally and internally. The Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) will drive and lead on digital innovation and champion the development of a productive and fit for the future nursing, midwifery and AHP information and data culture. They will lead and enable change, focusing on quality improvements through adoption of digital systems across the organisation.

The post-holder will work across all four hospital sites acting as an influencer and voice for nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals in the strategic direction for the Trust, that is clinically led, digitally enabled and operationally delivered.

As an experienced clinician, the CNIO will be in a unique position to truly understand the value a particular technology can bring to the advancement of nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals practice and quality of care at Trust and to the community at large. The role involves advocating and supporting user focused digital transformation externally and internally.

Main duties of the job

The Chief Nursing Information Officer will work closely with the Chief Clinical Information Officer and Chief Nurse as well as the Nursing, Midwifery and AHP's professional leads to deliver digital transformation for their area within the organisation.

The CNIO will collaborate with technical, clinical and transformation teams to design future clinical processes and workflows, maximised for patient safety and service efficiency. They will help to improve access to point of care data in improvement measurement formats to support frontline quality improvement efforts.

They are expected to influence and clinically lead (as part of a team with the Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) and CCIO) the implementation of new and optimisation of existing digital systems for the benefit of patients, nurses, midwives, doctors, allied health professionals and other multidisciplinary team members, which would include work across the health community.

Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.     

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months.                                                                                                                            

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Current active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Masters Degree in health related subject.
  • Management qualification. Post registration qualification
  • Digital Clinical Safety Officer training or demonstrable equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2)
  • Informatics/Information Management/Digital Leadership qualification/certification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing across a range of care settings
  • Extensive experience in managing and delivering change successfully.
  • Significant experience and understanding of the value that digital technology and information brings to improving quality of care, outcomes and efficiency.
  • Demonstrates breadth and depth of understanding of current NHS landscape and policy and ability to interpret and implement in clinical practice.
  • • Experience of ensuring that patients, staff and the public are engaged as an integral part of transformation programmes and that safety and experience are considered at every stage
  • • Experience in management position at directorate level and above.
  • • Experience in developing clinical teams.
  • • Experience of championing diversity and inclusion and promoting actions to make improvements
  • • An ability to apply clinical and technical understanding and knowledge to day to day clinical and operational practice
  • • Experience of creating diverse and inclusive teams that are motivated and inspired to work together to achieve a common objective
  • • Evidence of securing funding to support organisational initiatives.
  • • Experience working with national programmes
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in leading the implementation of electronic health records
  • • Experience of working with Epic
