Job overview

We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated individual who would form an integral part of the Rheumatology Team.

The post-holder will perform clinical work under the supervision of the Consultant team. Clinical duties including conducting outpatient clinics, review of outpatient and inpatient referrals, participating in ward rounds and on-call to be discussed.  This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team.

Applicants must be eligible for full Registration with the GMC at time of appointment

Main duties of the job

Duties of the Post: 

  • Provide treatment clinics and/or outpatient procedure lists from a range of suitable acute settings.
  • Provide care for in-patients with musculoskeletal disorders including participation in ward rounds
  • Provide advice on patients admitted under other clinical teams (referrals) and also advice to GPs and other health care professionals who contact the department for advice on assessment and management of patients with MSK disorders.
  • In the OPD setting at first appointment agree a management plan with the patient, and ensure details are fed back to the GP via clinical letters / discharge information.
  • Prescribe medication or provide prescribing advice as necessary within the clinic
  • Ensure prescribing is cost effective and evidence based, and in line with NICE guidance, local or national policy for prescribing including Manchester Medicines Group advise and Salford Care Organisation Formulary.
  • Where it is felt that a patient’s condition is not suitable to be managed in the service, appropriate referral for further management to appropriate services should be provided.
  • Provide support / guidance to junior members of the team
  • Contribute to the undergraduate teaching program
  • Contribute to the departmental QI and clinical audit program.
