We have a great opportunity to work part time with our Speech and Language Therapy Team at Salford Royal Hospital. The role will based on the critical care unit with the multi-disciplinary team and highly specialist SLTs delivering a communication and dysphagia service for in-patients in critical care.
This role is 30 hours per week. We offer flexible working options which would be ideal for someone looking for varied working patterns to balance home and work commitments across the working week. You will be required to contribute to the weekend rota delivering supporting the acute stroke wards.
The team have had significant investment to expand, resulting in a large group of highly skilled clinicians available for support, as well as merging with SLT teams across the NCA offering a wide range of access to specialist clinical knowledge.
We offer dedicated CPD time, peer supported learning, on the job coaching and clinical supervision from our team of experienced, highly specialist SLTs working within the hospital setting across a range of clinical specialities.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to support the MDT with management of communication and swallowing disorders with ventilated and tracheostomised patients. Specialist knowledge in managing dysphagia and communication impairments for these patients is essential. You will work with a range of aetiologies, for example post-surgical and neurological conditions
Ideally you will have experience of managing tracheostomised and ventilator dependent patients. Knowledge and skill in FEES and videofluoroscopy are also desirable.

You should have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and be registered with the HCPC.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- HCPC registration
- Degree in Speech & Language Therapy or recognised equivalent qualification
- Post basic training in dysphagia. Working at level C in RCSLT competencies.
- Evidence of successful completion of relevant short courses
- Clinical Educator Training
Desirable criteria
- MRCSLT
- Training / Experience of videofluoroscopy
- Training / Experience of FEES
- Training / Experience of tracheostomy management
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Minimum 2 years post qualification experience of working with adults with acquired neurological conditions
- Experience of assessing and managing complex communication disorders, including AAC.
- Proven organisational skills including time management, effective delegation and prioritisation and the ability to complete a task.
- Ability to work with and motivate others within a team
- Ability to work autonomously within a clinical area with senior support.
- Flexible to meet the needs of the service
- Able to travel between sites.
Desirable criteria
- Teaching, Supervisory and Appraisal skills and experience
- Experience working in NHS
- Ability to speak another language relevant to the population of Greater Manchester/ Experience working with interpreters
