Therapy Assistant - Neurorehabilitation

Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences  (MCCN) is excited to advertise a Band 3, Therapy Assistant post to support the development of rehabilitation services at the highly regarded Neurorehabilitation unit in Stockport.   The unit provides specialist, intensive and tailored rehabilitation to patients who have experienced acute neurological injury or illness.   This service has recently transfered to the NCA as part of  the transformation of in-patient Neurorehabilitation services across Greater Manchester.  Its an exciting time to join a developing service. 

The post holder will join an established Therapy Assistant team  who support multi-disciplinary aspects of rehabilitation under the direct supervision of our Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language therapy colleagues. 

The successful candidate will be well supported by the wider MDT and have ongoing access to relevant training and development opportunities. 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To assist in the delivery of high quality, evidenced based neurorehabilitation to the caseload of the Devonshire Unit by supporting individualised programs set by the therapy team.

 To support patients to progress with rehabilitation goals through; supported education, 1:1 sessions, groups (function, therapeutic and diversional) and community outreach activities supporting discharge planning.

To promote a 24-hour rehabilitation approach on the unit through joint working with the MDT and a supportive rehabilitation environment.

Changes to the UK immigration policy introduced on the 9th April 2025, increased the minimum salary threshold for certificates of sponsorship applications for Health and Care Worker Visa from £23,200 (£11.90 per hour) to £25,000 (£12.82 per hour). As per Agenda for Change, if you are new to the NHS your starting salary would be £24,937 (minimum Band 3 salary point from 1st April 2025 in line with National Living Wage requirements). Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship - or equivalent experience
  • Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G)
  • Care Certificate

Knowledge, Training & Experience

  • Previous employment working in a health care setting
  • Experience of working within a team

  • Previous experience working with patients with neurological impairment
  • Previous experience in supporting patients with rehabilitation individually or in group setting
  • Understanding of skills needed to work with clients with a variety of physical, cognitive and communication impairment
  • Understanding of mental health issues
  • Previous experience working as a therapy assistant in an NHS setting

Skills & Abilities

  • Able to deal with sensitive and emotional situations
  • Willingness to work across sites to support MCCN Neuro Rehab Services if required
