Job overview
The Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will work collaboratively with the wider multi- disciplinary Team to provide care, advice and support to patients who have a potential or confirmed lung cancer diagnosis. The CNS will be actively involved in promoting the Lung Cancer Best Timed Diagnostic patient pathway and acting as patient advocate in the Sector Lung Cancer Multi-disciplinary Team meeting. The post holder will be a point of contact for patients and their family/carers to offer support and guidance in relation to the diagnosis, next steps and follow up care. They will offer symptom control advice and psychological support together with making onward referrals to support services whilst maintaining communication with healthcare professionals in both Primary and Tertiary Care settings. The Lung Cancer CNS will also be a point of contact and offer expert clinical support and education to other members of the Team.
Main duties of the job
· Work as an autonomous practitioner, using initiative, being self-directed and pro-active
· Work alongside the Pathway Navigator to achieve the Lung Cancer Best Timed Pathway
Actively contribute to service development, Peer Review, local and national initiatives in relation to Lung Take responsibility for the implementation of audit, quality and risk management initiatives and support the evaluation of the Lung Cancer service
Represent the Trust and the specialty at both internal and external meetings related to the Lung Cancer service as appropriate
