Job overview
The Maternity Practice based Educator midwife will work in collaboration with the Practice Based Educator Lead Midwife for the development, planning, co-ordination and delivery of mandatory and continued professional education programmes for all staff within the maternity unit.
Assessment, planning and delivery of care to women and their families through the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum period. Ensuring collaboration with the Ward Manager/Team Leader ensuring delivery of high standards of care through an efficient, effective service.
Main duties of the job
In the role of a practice-based educator midwife, you will collaborate with the Practice Based Lead midwife to foster, develop, and implement a coordinated and systematic approach to practice development and the integration of evidence into practice.
- Serve as an exemplary figure for both pre and post-registration learners in the Maternity Division.
- Offer expert advice and instruction in clinical practice as needed.
- Facilitate and conduct clinical skills and other compulsory training to ensure the division complies with national NHS policies and guidelines.
- Utilize a high level of personal and professional autonomy, leveraging advanced specialist skills and knowledge.
- Proactively support practice and educational advancement at the ward/departmental and community levels.
- Collaborate and partner with the Trust's Learning and Development department and other Directorate/Divisional Education Leads where appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to:
• Have a comprehensive, specialized theoretical knowledge in their field and support the education, training, and professional development of midwives, maternity support workers, and obstetric and anaesthetic allied health professionals. The Practice Based Educator Midwife will be involved in designing, implementing, and delivering education programs aligned with national strategies, safety initiatives, and Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS).
• Serve as a role model demonstrating midwifery expertise, assist the Practice Based Educator Lead Midwife in maintaining an ongoing program of education and clinical skills support for the maternity multi-professional team within maternity services.
• Monitor key training performance in alignment with the trust's training needs analysis, regional and national safety initiatives, and national work programs.
• Support the Practice Based Educator Lead Midwife in tracking training compliance progress, aiding in formal reporting requirements and action planning.
• Promote a positive learning environment within maternity services, take a proactive approach to workforce development, and assist with developing and facilitating training, education, and clinical skills for staff as needed.
• Help develop equipment training competencies, ensuring all competency training and assessment requirements are met according to current Trust standards.
• Ensure all staff complete mandatory training and maintain records to meet Trust targets.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
