We are looking for Neonatal / Paediatric Staff nurses to join our friendly Neonatal nursing team. We have 17 cots (2 ITU, 3 HDU & 12 SC cots) providing care for neonates from 27 weeks gestation.
We have close links and are part of the wider North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. We also link in with local tertiary units to gain further valuable expertise. We are proud to have achieved FiCare Accreditation and uphold this standard within the care that we give to all our families.
We work in collaboration with the Maternity Unit and the Paediatric Ward enabling the services to align, and thus providing a strong supportive environment to all staff and patients.
We provide specialist training, including opportunities to attend the NWNODN Foundation in Neonates programme in the first 12 months and to undergo the Qualified in Speciality Neonatal Intensive Care course. A Trust Preceptorship Programme is also provided.
We have an enthusiastic, experienced Neonatal Educator based on the unit to support your learning and on going development including in house study days. This ensures valuable support for both nursing staff , pre registration students and cadets.
Main duties of the job
Works as a member of the MDT, providing evidence based nursing care to babies and their families.
Maintains effective communication with patients/families and professional colleagues.
Practices in accordance with the NMC guidelines, within your own scope of practice and adhering to local Directorate and Trust policies.
Ensures that care is assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated on a individual basis on a timely basis to ensure the neonates needs are met.
Administers medication safely according to NMC guidelines.
Adheres to all infection prevention guidelines within all aspects of care.
Contributes to the orientation, development and training needs of learners and new staff.
Ensures own growth and career development by keeping up to date with current neonatal practice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communications
- Communicate and liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure babies/parent’s needs are at the centre of all care.
- Maintain adequate documentation adhering to the Trust guidelines.
- Report to shift leader highlighting specific problems as necessary.

Responsibility for Patient Care/Clinical Duties
- Ensure effective liaison with all professionals involved in the care and management of neonates and their families.
- Provide expert advice and support for parents and carers within own scope of practice.
- Take active steps to promote the health of baby and family.
- Ensure FiCare is adhered to. Ensure families receive appropriate education to care for their baby and to make decisions with their babies care.
- Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for intensive care, high dependency and special care babies, working in partnership with parents and carers.
- Undertakes discharge planning in a timely manner working with families.
- Administers medications within Trust and NMC guidance.
- Liase with the Safeguarding Team to ensure patient safety. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
- Takes appropriate action if an incident occurs including reporting, actions, clear documentation, learning and reflection.
If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
