Job overview
We are delighted you are considering applying for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist post at an exciting time for our journey at Stockport. The Obstetrics & Gynaecology department is focused on elective recovery and increasing our team of Consultants providing both Obstetric and Gynaecology care. This appointment will continue provision of Obstetric on call, acute gynaecology daytime cover, one stop clinics and delivery suite sessions.
The department is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, housed in a purpose-built Maternity Unit building over four floors providing comprehensive Women’s health services. Along with the busy Maternity Unit the department hosts a regional endometriosis centre, the South East sector Pelvic floor MDT with Urogynaecology services and one of the busiest ambulatory gynaecology services in the North West.
You will be joining a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team of consultants. This job will be split across both the Obstetrics and Gynaecology services.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be a Generalist and they will play a key role in the provision of general Obstetric and Gynaecology services, including acute gynaecology cover (CEPOD theatre, gynaecology SDEC), elective caesarean section lists, gynaecology outpatient clinics, one stop hysteroscopy clinics and labour ward. They will provide labour ward cover which will allow the department to maintain the consultant delivered service on the labour ward, will participate in 1:10 weekday and 1:8 weekend on call consultant rota with prospective cover.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

They will provide labour ward cover which will allow the department to maintain the consultant delivered service on the labour ward, will participate in 1:10 weekday and 1:8 weekend on call consultant rota with prospective cover.
· To undertake specific roles as detailed in the tentative job plans.
· To provide, together with consultant colleagues, increased Consultant presence on Labour Ward and comprehensive Obstetrics and Gynaecology service.
· To provide twice daily ward round in Obstetrics (labour ward / antenatal / triage)
· To provide labour ward cover during day time and twilight and on-call for Obstetrics
· They will have access to hospital beds and facilities for the investigation and treatment of women and will take part in the day to day running of the maternity unit,
· Responsibility for post take ward rounds ensuring safe care, smooth handover and continuity of care of both inpatients and outpatients.
· The appointee will be expected to undertake an active role in the teaching and training of medical staff, nurses, midwives and medical students.
· To liaise with General Practitioners, other Consultants and Midwives regarding the type of care necessary for women
· To take part in clinical governance and to participate in the development and review of guidelines
· To undertake the necessary administrative work relating to the clinical work
· To develop their own expertise and specialist clinics consistent with the development of the unit as a whole
· To comply with Continuing Professional Development requirements including annual appraisal, Job planning and GMC revalidation

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC).
- MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
- ATSM Advanced Labour ward Practice
- Gynaecology ATSM
- Gynaecological scanning
Desirable criteria
- ATSM in hysteroscopy
- Higher degree (MD or MSc)
- ASTM in Acute gynaecology and Early Pregnancy
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CTT.
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Appropriate experience in high risk obstetrics and acute gynaecology
Management experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of developing clinical guidelines, policies and care pathways
- Awareness of the managerial role of a Consultant in the NHS
- Attendance on a management/leadership course
Teaching Skills
Essential criteria
- Experience of supervision of medical and midwifery staff
Personal Skills
Essential criteria
- Enthusiastic with good leadership skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Capable of working well in MDT
- Good practical clinician who is willing and able to further develop clinical and surgical skills
- Good organisational and management skills
