We are looking for a confident pharmacy technician, willing to train and become proficient in medicine management and the enthusiasm and drive to assist moving the service forward.

You should be able to communicate effectively with both staff and patients.

There will be both dispensary and ward based activities and you will be expected to be able to organize and prioritize your own workload and also be part of a large team.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The post holder will carry out a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical activities in the dispensary and at ward level and will have sufficient knowledge and experience to work unsupervised as part of the ward pharmacy team.

You will be expected to complete a Medicines Management training programme and will be ready to undertake or will have completed a National Accredited Accuracy Checking programme.

 The post holder may be asked to undertake duties of a more specialised nature in addition to routine professional and technical duties. There is a requirement to be accurate at all times.

Responsibility for Patient Care

  • Performs a final ‘accuracy check on prescriptions and orders which have previously been clinically checked by a pharmacist and in accordance with Trust procedures and ensures dispensing errors are corrected by the appropriate member of staff. (if appropriate)
  • Provides a cost effective ‘one stop’ dispensing service to designated wards, involving checking suitability of patients own drugs for use on the ward, arranging re-supplies of patient’s drugs, liaising with GPs, nursing homes and ward staff, assessing patients concordance and providing patient counselling and education where necessary.
  • Provides Medicines Management Service to all wards/departments when required
  • Assist in discharge planning
  • Carries out medicines reconciliation
  • Interprets and dispenses prescriptions for inpatients, and discharged patients.
  • Provides advice to patients with new/ongoing drugs, doses, possible side effects, and benefits of taking medicines/further supplies.
  • Liaises with various members of the pharmacy team and ward staff when solving supply problems and ensuring the best service to patients
  • Concentrates while dispensing or accuracy checking prescriptions/calculating doses/quantities for supply whilst dealing with occasional interruptions.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
