Job overview

The post holder will be a member of the Procurement Department within the Materials Management Team and will provide a stock ordering and put away service to Stockport NHS Foundation Trust restocking the wards and departments.

Main duties of the job

·             70% of the main duties and responsibilities of this role will be the manual and physical activity of ordering, checking and put away stock products, which involves the moving and handling the products out in the wards and departments, and dealing with returns where appropriate. Physical effort also includes standing for long periods of time, walking across the whole Trust site, and working within small storeroom areas. 

·           Process stock and non-stock requisitions utilising appropriate NHS Supply Chain IT System / Local Stock Management System in line with the Trust’s pre-determined input timetable.

·             Monitor stock availability, delivery times and dates, taking remedial action as and when necessary. Ensure that all discrepancies are correctly recorded and that appropriate corrective action is taken.

·             Maintain all electronic records of products and associated stock levels utilising NHS Supply Chain I.T. system accurately and amend as appropriate.

·             Identify any surplus stock that can either be re-assigned to other wards or returned to NHS Supply Chain for credit and action accordingly.

·             Assist in the smooth implementation of any product or unit of issue changes that result from Trust product rationalisation / standardisation or from changes to national suppliers either permanent or temporary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Communications 

·             Respond to and deal with catalogue queries from customers on product details, availability, delivery times and other associated queries.

·             Assist the Materials Management Supervisors in creating and managing relationships with end users and suppliers to develop product knowledge and other relevant information.

·             Attend meetings with Trust Stakeholders and Suppliers as and when required in support of the Materials Management Supervisors.

·             Attend Departmental meetings as and when required.

·             Demonstrate excellent communication and Customer Service Skills.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent including Maths and English or equivalent work experience.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of Microsoft Office Packages, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to search, research and access procurement resources
  • Knowledge of the use of online ordering systems
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS procurement policies and procedures

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a busy Procurement / Supply Chain environment
  • Experience of checking, monitoring and re-ordering to maintain stock levels
  • Experience of distribution of stocks and products
  • Experience of stock takes and inventory management
  • Experience of dealing with stock queries and discrepancies
Desirable criteria
  • Procurement experience within a Public Sector / NHS environment
