Job overview

The post holder will work as part of a team comprising: 12 consultants, 7 Clinical nurse specialists and a team of dedicated urology staff based in the Urology unit at Stepping Hill Hospital.
The post holder will support the urology CNS team in the care and management of urology patients, particularly in respect of developing pathways and clinics for cancer conditions and treatments.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

·       In conjunction with the Head Nurse and clinical team will deliver the modernisation agenda within their clinical setting.

·       Lead by example and act as a positive role model for all staff, taking responsibility for own professional development

·       Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care.

·       Lead on the development and delivery of Cancer Urology care and conditions, education and training for patients and staff.

·       Provide clinical leadership and line management of staff if appropriate, ensuring the delivery of the highest professional standards through staff development and individual performance appraisal/review.

·       Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour, which are consistent with Trust and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards and requirements

·       Actively contribute to, and support agreed developments within the Business Group, relevant to specialty

·       Provide proactive case management to patients and their carer/s by regular holistic assessment determined by individual circumstances to identify needs.

·       Provide expert nursing advice and support to other Health Care Professionals (HCP)

·       Refer on or signpost to other sources for support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibility for Patient Care
Provide specialist advice, support and leadership to patient's carers and staff. on issues relating to Urological conditions.
Use clinical expertise to assess the psychological needs of the patient group.
providing Holistic support.
 Exercise clinical skills/expertise in identifying acute physical symptoms and
acute Urological issues.
Use clinical expertise to identify patient needs. Support staff in
decision making and coordinating these needs and refer to other agencies as appropriate
 Lead and develop nurse-led clinics/activity, including ordering investigations. and interpreting results as appropriate for the specialty in line with competency training and trust requirements
Undertake agreed clinical procedures relevant to speciality, in accordance with the standard operating procedures and/or patient group directions
Administer when appropriate intravesical immunotherapy and chemotherapy, including patient education for intermittent self-catheterisation and self-administration of treatment.

Manage day case "Trial without Catheter admissions" on ward.
Taking informed Consent from adults undergoing Urology surgery
 Digital rectal examination
Assessment and treatment of patients with Erectile Dysfunction
Assessment and treatment of patients with Stone disease.
Maintain accurate patient records, by collecting, collating, recording,
evaluating and reporting information
Establish and maintain a highly effective communication with patients and carers in order to develop a therapeutic relationship within which sensitive, distressing and complex issues are often addressed.
Responsible for assessing people’s information needs and providing relevant information.
Promote patient and public experience feedback through local initiatives to
drive innovation and change.
Ensure the use of risk assessments and health and safety management, utilising the Trust’s incident reporting system, to improve the quality of patient care.
Assist the Department Manager in supporting and contributing to agreed developments within the Business Group.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary 

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
