We are very excited to be able to offer a new opportunity in our Stockport Children's therapy Services (CTS).

We are looking for a 'physical function' manager to work alongside our communication managers under the Children's Therapy Services manager in Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

This role will provide leadership to the occupational therapists physiotherapists , equipment and adaptations team and home equipment store staff. 

The post holder will also take the lead in governance and risk for CTS and provide decision making for the children's equipment and adaptations team.

The main duties include:

Job Summary:
To provide over arching leadership and supervision for children’s occupational therapy (OT), children’s physiotherapy (PT) , children’s equipment and adaptations service (CEAS) and children’s home equipment store (HES) providing services under a balanced system framework ®. 

To lead and co-ordinate the teams to work in multidisciplinary ways being responsible for efficient provision across a continuum of offer as per the balanced system framework. To lead teams through transformation as needed to ensure up to date and effective and efficient processes are in place.

To work as a member of a team, providing clinical support within the balanced system framework as needed in the service, liaising with other health, education and social services, working in partnership with primary carers and external agencies to ensure the delivery of a high quality service.

To make decisions regarding equipment and adaptation provision across all the services.  

To act as the internal service lead for governance and risk for all children’s therapy services ensuring standing operating processes and record keeping policies are up to date and to lead on the CTS audit plans. 

To deputise for CTS Manager as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 To take day-to-day responsibility for the leadership, delivery and operational management of the designated teams of multidisciplinary therapists and support staff:

    • Occupational therapists (OT)
    • Physiotherapists (PT)
    • Children’s equipment and adaptations service (CEAS) occupational therapists
    • Home Equipment Store (HES) lead OT / technicians

ensuring the services are effective and well co-ordinated across multiple schools, settings and communities across Stockport.

  • To lead the service provision across the 5 strands and 3 levels of the Balanced System ® in collaboration with the Childrens Therapy manager / Childrens SLT Managers / All CTS Team leads.
  • To work closely with the Children’s Therapy Manager  to ensure of equity of access to relevant supervision and the achievement of competencies required for the maintenance of HCPC registration of team members.
  • To be responsible for developing and monitoring the standard of service provision across your teams through the implementation of clinical governance requirements i.e. protocols and guidelines, clinical audit and risk management policies.
  • To take the lead for governance and risk across all children’s therapies ensuring standard operating procedures are up to date and submitted and to lead on CTS audit planning.
  • To demonstrate a high level of clinical effectiveness within the service by use of evidence based practice and outcome measures ensuring effective high quality patient care
  • To contribute to business plans for the managed areas.
  • To deputise for more senior staff when appropriate.
  • To facilitate in-service training, research and audit activities within the designated team.
  • To teach, develop and educate team members to ensure service needs are met.
  • To support the development of students within the team.
  • To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised assessment, treatment and management of patients referred to your team if required.
  • As an autonomous practitioner using advanced and highly specialised skills and knowledge, determine clinical diagnoses and treatment indicated for a complex caseload and maintain records.
  • To provide supervision and decision making for the children’s equipment and adaptations service including risk assessment where possible.
  • To lead the services through transformation to a balanced system ®.
  • To work with CTS manager to develop the outcomes framework for OT, PT CEAS and HES.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16
