Job overview
We are excited to bring several opportunities to join our established Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in MFT. You will join us as a trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) in one of our four MHST teams.
You will be based in either Salford or North Manchester MHST, as part of the Prestwich Training Centre cohort (start date Aug/Sept 2026) OR Trafford or South Manchester MHST as part of the Edge Hill University Cohort (start date Dec/Jan 2026). Successful candidates will be employed full-time and find themeselves working in a split post of three days clinical and two teaching days at their training site for 12 months.

In line with the government’s priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.

Essential criteria
- Diploma level criteria or equivalent experience
- Academic attainment with literacy and numeracy qualifications
- Experience of working with children and young poeple
- Experience of working with CYP with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, anxiety, mood disorders
- Experience of delivery of therapeutic support
- Knowledge of the education system, child development and mental health
- Excellent communication, time management skills with ability to manage a potentially distressing caseload
Desirable criteria
- Relevant degree, teaching or Youth Mental Health training
- Experience of working with CYP and families in an education or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of policy and procedures in relation to mental health, safeguarding and mental health in education
- Proven commitment to continuing professional development
