Job overview
A valuable volunteer opportunity within our older people's mental health service.
This volunteer role is intended to enhance the service by supporting the development, delivery and evaluation of the carer groups delivered.
Informal interview
The informal interviews for this role will take place on Thursday 2nd April 2026 at our Trust Headquarters in Ashton-Under-Lyne (OL6 7SR)
Please note we are unable to hold meetings over Teams or Zoom or phone.
Main duties of the job
You will be supporting carers and staff by:
- To support and assist staff in the development and delivery of the carer groups/support offered by the service.
- Encourage and motivate attendees to participate in and maintain attendance at the group.
- Be a source of support for carers as identified by staff
- To give administrative support related to the carers groups/support delivered by the service.
- To support the maintenance of information on the service and other relevant services i.e. information leaflets, literature and session forms.
- Engage and support people to complete outcome, experience and satisfaction questionnaires/surveys
Please note: To meet our Trust’s safeguarding obligations applicants for this volunteer role must be aged 18 or over.

Volunteer Recruitment
Applying to become a volunteer may seem a little daunting for some people however, the volunteer service is here to guide and support you through the process.
Please be aware that due to the robust process, recruitment can sometimes take a few weeks.
Throughout the process you will have informal meetings with us and the service where you will be volunteering. In addition to this we will require you to:
- Complete an identity (ID) check
- Complete a Disclosure and Barring Service* (DBS) check,
- Complete an Occupational health assessment
- Give details for two references
- Complete relevant training.

DBS checks for volunteers are free and the level of check is dependent on the role you are undertaking.

- Experience of being an unpaid carer for a family member or friend – an advantage
- An understanding of mental health issues – an advantage
- Patience & a Caring Nature
- Punctuality and reliability.
- Excellent communication skills.
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
