Job overview
Use expertise and clinical skills to accurately assess patient’s individual needs in relation to contraception and sexual health and manage their care appropriately.
Perform sexual health screening, venepuncture, vaccination, and health advice for patients as appropriate including supporting the work of the health advising team
Undertake clinics examination using observation as appropriate working as an autonomous practitioner.
Undertake the administration of medication under Patient Group Directions .
Work independently as required, this will include a number of early evenings and include Saturdays on a rotational basis.
Work flexibly within the service undertaking clinical sessions at other clinics/venues as required.
Insert and remove sub dermal contraception implants
Undertake pregnancy testing as clinical indicated and provide appropriate discussion of options and referral’s as required
Provide support and on-going management to complex patients i.e. PEP/sexual assault
Undertake safeguarding as required of young people and adults
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced contraception and sexual health nurses to join our Sexual and Reproductive Health Service at our Salford service based at the Lance Burn Centre. The service will offer you the opportunity to further develop your skills in the speciality, within a small team of highly experienced Dr's and nurses.
This post may be a Band 5 training post to Band 6 dependent on experience.
The service is part of the large Northern Service which incorporates Central Manchester, North and South Manchester, Trafford and Salford.
Applicants must demonstrate a non-judgemental attitude, be enthusiastic and have excellent communication and organisational skills. You will be flexible as you will be required to work across sites, including on Saturday mornings.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse or midwife
- Recognised post registration qualification in Sexual and Reproductive Health
- Mentorship/teaching qualification
- Degree or working towards
Desirable criteria
- Nurse Diploma SRH
- STIF Intermediate competencies
Experience
Essential criteria
- Current and in depth knowledge of sexual and reproductive health
- Current and in-depth knowledge of current local and national safeguarding processes/policy and guidance relating to under 16’s, under 18’s and vulnerable adults
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in sexual and reproductive health at Band 5
- Currently practising in the speciality
Desirable criteria
- HIV nursing experience
- Gynaecological nursing experience

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
