Team Leader Senior Specialist Physio/Nurse - NWVS

Job overview
This role is for a Senior Specialist Clinician and Team Leader role (Physiotherapist or Nurse) within the North West Ventilation Service (NWVS). The post holder will work alongside the Consultant Respiratory/ICU Physicians, and Lead Nurse and Lead Physiotherapists. This role involves planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the services provided to patients referred into this regional tertiary service on a daily basis. The post holder will manage an independent caseload of patients and deliver a high standard of patient supervision in relation to this area of speciality. The NWVS cares for a wide cohort of patients with non invasive and tracheostomy ventilation.
Main duties of the job
Rotation between NWVU and outreach teams
Possess a high level of skills
interpretation and analysis of clinical/non-clinical/technical data to triage and formulate care plans across a cohort of patients
Teaching, training and supervision of staff/patients/carers. Formal and informal
Autonomous working in hospital settings and in the community
Clinical responsibility for patient caseloads in a hospital/outreach setting
Clinical support for highly complex patients throughout various procedures/surgeries with pre and post workup and recovery plans
Extended skills in relation to ventilation/tracheostomy
Adherence to guidelines, policies and protocols
Training and performance management of junior staff/performance management and HR managerial duties
Excellent communication skills including the ability to provide highly complex discharge care plans and training schedules
Day to day NWVS/Unit management workload, including the MDT
Audit and research
Training and educational duties

Essential criteria
- BSc Physiotherapy or Nursing Degree
- Current Health Professional Council Registration or NMC registration
- CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
- Relevant post-graduate course
- Leadership/Management Course
- Membership of relevant Specialist Interest Groups
- Educational or Training qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous clinical experience of non-invasive/invasive ventilatory support/tracheostomy
- 2 years’ experience as a Band 6 in a Respiratory setting
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of supervising and educating less experienced staff, and assistants
- Experience of End of Life care and management
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the working of community services
- Involvement with audit and research
- Membership or clinical responsibility for regional/department/Trust groups e.g. Health and Safety
- Experience working in a respiratory service with NIV patients/paediatric transitioning/tracheostomies/ invasive ventilation/weaning
- Experience in undertaking outpatient clinics
