Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new physical health team within a mental health inpatient unit. The role will involve working across two wards: a female acute ward,  and a female psychiatric intensive care unit. 

The successful applicant will provide leadership to the wards on physical health assessment, monitoring, interventions and care planning, as well as providing education and training on physical health topics to staff across the unit.

The successful applicant will have an interest in optimising physical health in mental health service users, and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the complex physical health issues they face.

You will be working in a small team lead by an Advanced Clinical  Practitioner. The post holder will work regular hours, Monday to Friday 9 – 5, However, applications for flexible working hours on weekdays will be considered.   

The post holder will at all times comply with the NMC Code of Conduct, relevant legislation policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

Your main duties will be to provide leadership in all aspects of physical healthcare. You will ensure that the GMMH Physical Health and Wellbeing Policy is embedded fully across the wards and will offer expertise in physical health assessment, monitoring, interventions and care planning. 

You will represent Blake and Bronte wards and the Trust Physical Healthcare Group and will disseminate all Trust guidance effectively. 

You will be responsible for maintaining oversight of local audits related to physical health monitoring and support the teams to improve practice where necessary. 

You will provide education to staff on a range of physical health topics and will provide oversight of all complex physical health cases  on the wards.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse or Registered Mental Health Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CPD in physical healthcare
  • Wound care training and expertise
  • Venepuncture and ECG competencies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration experience of working with long-term physical health conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration experience of working in a general setting i.e. hospital ward or district nurse team
  • Experience of working in a leadership role
