Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Infection prevention  and control Practitioner with an engaging and friendly style to join our infection prevention and control service. You will need to be capable of developing the IPC agenda and putting in place effective systems to deliver, monitor and report on compliance with excellent standards of infection prevention and control across our organisation. 

To be successful you will need to be educated to Degree level or equivalent) and have relevant training and experience in infection prevention and control and importantly a passion for developing and delivering education sessions to all levels of staff. 

This role is suitable for a Nurse or Allied Health Professional interested in IPC.

You must be passionate about teaching and leading by example.

Main duties of the job

Work to ensure the organisation meets its statutory and regulatory requirements in relation to infection prevention and control. 

Report on compliance with standards 

Develop and review polices, guidance and flow charts to support good IPC practice. 

Develop and deliver training and education and develop resources to support effective and safe practice. 

Take the lead on reducing the risk of outbreaks and ensure robust systems are in place for early detection and management of isolated infections. 

Where an outbreak occurs be responsible for identification, notification, and actions to contain the transmission and spread- reporting to the DIPC on outcomes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Participate in the review and implementation of Infection Prevention and Control Policies and related procedures. 

  1. Participate in the surveillance of healthcare associated infection. 

  1. To assist in the investigation of outbreaks and to provide support to clinical teams during outbreaks of infection. 

  1. To participate in the implementation of infection prevention and control audits and assist in the preparation of reports and action plans. 

  1. Deputise for Senior Infection Prevention Control colleagues as and when required. 

  1. To provide specialist infection prevention and control advice on healthcare new builds and refurbishment projects, equipment purchases and clinical waste management, to meet national guidance and local standards. 

  1. Liaise with other departments regarding infection prevention and control related issues. To carry out investigations and root cause analyses of Healthcare Associated Infections and reflective practice reviews of serious adverse incidents including outbreaks of infection. 

  1. Based at Prestwich Knowsley House - To work across all GMMH sites and to be able to travel by car or public transport arriving to start sessions in normal hours.
