Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time permanent, MHA administrator to join the Prestwich MHA team. The post-holder will be required to cover MHA offices within the Trust's footprint.
The post-holder will need to be a self motivated individual with administration experience and preferably knowledge of the MHA or a desire to learn.
The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving and scrutinising MHA documents and undertaking other MHA related tasks.
The post is in a very busy team and the post-holder will need to able to prioritise and work to deadlines.
Main duties of the job
To undertake the administrative aspects of the implementation of the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS), including, where necessary, supporting those responsible for the implementation of the Act. Also to ensure that the necessary support is in place to enable the MHA Hospital Managers to carry out their statutory duties ensuring best practice is developed and maintained throughout the organisation
Receipt and scrutiny of statutory MHA documentation, ensuring that all documentation is completed lawfully and that any errors are rectified within designated timescales
Ensuring transfers of detained patients to and from the organistion are undertaken in accordance with the legislation and that relevant documentation accompanies the patient
Coordinate administrative aspects of DoLS applications
Organise the administration of Mental Health Review Tribunal hearings and Mental Health Act Hospital Managers reviews
Provide the MHA Hospital Managers with all the necessary information and support to enable them to carry out their duties, including designing and delivering training programmes and monitoring deployment
Coordinate liaison with MHA Commissioners (Care Quality Commission) including arrangements for visits and collation of responses to recommendations

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Educated to A level, HNC or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- • Certificate in Mental Health law or similar qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Working in an administrative role in the NHS or comparable setting
- • Operating systems for managing and monitoring information
- • Following organisation procedures and maintaining quality standards in one’s work
- • Working with a range of professionals of different backgrounds
- • Use of computer-based systems and programmes
Desirable criteria
- • Some knowledge of the MHA and its Code of Practice
