The Patient Services Clerk has a varied role which spans a number of different work areas. The tasks below describe the type of duties appropriate for the role, however, depending on where the post holder is placed or working, not all of the tasks may be carried out and there may be additional duties specific to that work area expected and within the remit of the role.

To provide a professional, friendly and effective service face to face to patients and relatives. 

Main duties of the job

The Administrative Services Department is offering an opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team as a Patient Services Clerk.

As a Patient Services Clerk within the Admin Services Team you will play a key role in supporting patients during their Outpatient attendances and provide administrative support to clinical teams.

Our work is complex, interesting, specialised and driven by tight deadlines. As such, it is essential that you have good organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure.

A comprehensive induction programme provides new staff with the basic framework they need to undertake their role but is essential that you have previous office experience ideally in an NHS environment.

You will have a good standard of education including English and Maths, excellent computer skills and experience of competently handling telephone and face to face enquiries.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of education or equivalent work based experience
  • Must be computer literate eg ECDL or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ2 or Basic Level of Certificate of Technical Competence (Institute of Heath Records and Information Management) or equivalent.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of a range of administration systems acquired through experience and qualification
  • Confidentiality and Data Protection legislation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in an office environment
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a admin healthcare environment
  • Administrative experience within an NHS organisation
