Job overview

We have two part time 22.5 hour permanent positions available with an exciting opportunity to join our Neurology Service.  Supporting patients in the acute Trust including Stroke Assessment Unit, Clatterbridge Rehabilitation Centre, Early Supported Discharge Service and Neuro Outpatient Services. 

The main area for the role will be within  Clatterbridge Rehabilitation Centre however this post will give opportunity to gain experience in acute, rehabilitation, community and outpatient services.  

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with clinical experience in neurology to come and join our team.  

 

 

Main duties of the job

We have a very active therapy service at WUTH and there are many opportunities for people looking to enhance their clinical knowledge and experience within neurology. 

There are opportunities to engage in training and development, innovative practice and service development. 

You will have professional support for your CPD from Band 7 Therapy team Leaders and support from Senior Occupational Therapists from other specialities as required.

Person specification

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC (or student Occupational Therapist with qualification pending)
  • HCPC registration
  • Appropriate experience as a qualified Occupational Therapist
  • Previous care experience
  • Core Rotations as a Band 5 Therapists in a range of core areas: o Orthopaedics o Medical or Frailty Inpatients o Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists or similar
  • Active collection of relevant CPD in portfolio
  • High level of clinical reasoning with excellent theoretical knowledge underpinning practice
  • Demonstrate a good awareness of needs of patient and appropriate action to take
  • Demonstrate awareness of the roles of others in providing patient care and ability to work as an effective team member
  • Experience supervising junior, students or non-qualified staff
  • Student Educator Course

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Well developed theoretical knowledge under pinning Occupational Therapy practice
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good analytical, problem solving and clinical reasoning skills
  • Basic computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience in hospital computer system
  • Ability to communicate within difficult circumstances and demonstrate empathetic approach to patients.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), analytical, problem solving skills and clinical reasoning
  • Understanding of national issues and relating them to own clinical practice

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to support others and needs of the service
  • Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to show initiative but understanding when to refer to trained staff
  • Ability to organise own workload and administrational procedures
