NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Nurse to join our Outpatients Department as OPD Deputy Manager.

We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive individual who is committed to delivering high-quality care to our patients. The ideal candidate will be organized, possess strong communication skills, and work effectively with colleagues across both departments and within the multidisciplinary team.

This role offers a valuable opportunity to broaden your understanding of services across the Walton Centre, and to enhance your overall clinical knowledge in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Main duties of the job

Take responsibility for coordinating clinic rooms and supervising the smooth running of outpatient services, ensuring effective communication and continuity of care. Exercise sound clinical judgement and decision-making, particularly when managing patients with complex neurological needs.

Oversee the daily organisation of outpatient clinics, ensuring patients and families are welcomed, informed, and monitored appropriately. Promote a consistently high standard of care, acting as a clinical role model and upholding the NMC Code of Conduct at all times.

Maintain a safe clinical environment by adhering to infection control procedures, safeguarding policies, and risk assessment protocols. Support Trust-wide quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, experience, and clinical outcomes.

Contribute to clinical audits and service development through evidence-based practice. Play an active role in staff development by mentoring junior colleagues and students, and delivering training where needed.

Assist in the induction and orientation of new staff, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture. Provide clinical leadership by acting as a point of contact for complex queries, supporting colleagues, and managing escalated concerns.

Deputise for the Outpatients Department Manager during their absence, assuming responsibility for both outpatient areas. Ensure service continuity, effective issue escalation, and communication with senior managers and clinical leads.
