Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.
We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview
The Head of Nursing (HoN) and Allied Health Professionals (AHP’s) will operationally lead and develop the Medicine Specialty Services to meet Trust and national guidelines in conjunction with the clinical leadership of the Divisional Board. A key part of the role will be to contribute to strategic planning and devise operational development plans, including re-design of services and effective deployment of personnel. The postholder will be required to ensure effective co-ordination between the extensive interfaces of this specialist service including its internal and external stakeholders and the Divisional Management Team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder, in conjunction with the Divisional Board, is responsible for:§ Operational delivery and co-ordination of high quality, efficient, patient-focused medicine division services including effective resource and performance management to achieve corporate objectives.
Delivery of access, activity, financial and governance targets within the medicine division.
Strategic development and implementation of plans to meet the Trust’s objectives including re-design of services to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Provision of effective leadership and management. To develop and support behaviours in line with the trust values to create a positive environment and deliver a high quality service.
Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for staff and patients in all areas of the division.
Work cohesively with the other HoN and AHP’s for the Medicine Division to ensure equitable cover and support for services.

- Strong commitment to quality health services for patients and families
- Evidence of facilitating change/ improvement in clinical/ nursing practice and patient experience
- Extensive experience of working in the field of clinical quality at a senior level
