Locum Consultant

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview

 

This is a locum (10 PA) post, based at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust in the department of paediatric Neurosurgery with a view to giving the candidate an opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest. The successful applicant would join a team of 6 Consultants at Alder Hey; and would become part of a 1 in 6 on-call rota.

 

The post-holder will report through the Clinical Lead to the Chief Executive with professional support from the Divisional Director.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the paediatric neurosurgery department providing outpatient clinics, surgical intervention and will be part on the 1:6 on-call rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be part of the paediatric neurosurgery department. This post is 10 programmed activities per week (8.5 PA direct clinical care and 1.5 PA supporting professional activities).

The post holder will participate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates, supervise junior staff and partake in departmental meetings.

Develop research interests in their area of interest and expertise.
