We serve a catchment area of 2.8 million people, spanning Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man, and increasingly we receive referrals from outside these areas for highly specialised services such as aortics.

Job overview
Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Operations to lead our Surgical Care Group within a triumvirate alongside the Clinical and Nursing Leads. This is a newly created role and ideal for an experienced operational leader who is looking to develop their career in a rewarding and dynamic environment. The Surgery Care Group oversees a range of elective and non-elective tertiary surgical services, including Thoracic, Cardiac, Aortic, ACHD and Vascular surgery, alongside a range of clinical support services including Outpatients, pre-op and Palliative Care.
The successful candidate will have previous experience of leading teams in a diverse and complex environment, and will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high quality, efficient and effective services for our population. The role encompasses strategic and operational responsibilities with the autonomy to develop services through transformation and operational excellence.
It’s an exciting time to join the Surgery Division and we have ambitions to continue expanding our nationally recognised surgical services through further development and improvement of our elective and urgent pathways. The Head of Operations will be critical in the development and expansion of the department to ensure that LHCH continues to offer the best cardiothoracic healthcare to the patients and families we serve.
Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Divisional Director of Operations the post holder will be an integral member of the Care Group Triumvirate and will be fully accountable for the delivery of the Care Group’s operational and financial performance. They will take a lead role in both shaping and delivering the Care Group’s strategy in conjunction with both the Divisional and Trust’s overall strategies and objectives.
The Head of Operations will work with the Clinical Director and Lead Nurse to drive operational performance and planning within the Care group. The post holder will work closely with other Divisions, Corporate services and external partners in to achieve Trust objectives and make a positive contribution to the provision of health services for the population served.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Head of Operations will provide a highly visible and accessible presence to support the delivery of Divisional and the Trust’s overall objectives and service priorities.
The Head of Operations will be fully accountable for the Care Group’s budgets and will monitor the income for the Care Group alongside controlling all expenditure within budget (to include bank / locum and agency staff costs and controls).
The Head of Operations will lead the schemes to ensure achievement of the Cost Improvement target for the Care Group and represent the senior team at appropriate meetings to monitor financial performance in all these areas.
The Head of Operations will deputise for the Divisional Director of Operations, including representing them at divisional level and sub-board level meetings.
The post holder has line management responsibility for Directorate Managers and other identified direct reports.
