Occupational Therapist - Critical Care/Surgery/Respiratory

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled, well-motivated and dynamic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Critical Care/ Respiratory/ Surgical Therapy Team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be based in the new, state-of-the-art Royal Liverpool Hospital and will be responsible for supporting the Physiotherapy Service through nine-monthly rotations across the surgical wards, respiratory medicine and cardiology wards, respiratory support unit (which provides non-invasive ventilation and tracheostomy care) and critical care. You should have a strong clinical background, and knowledge and skills acquired across a variety of settings.
You will be part of a high functioning multidisciplinary team providing specialist clinical contribution to the patient journey with high level assessment and treatment planning for complex patients. You should have excellent organisational, planning and time management skills. You will need be on-call competent and comfortable with working in a challenging, acute, fast paced environment.
You must have strong leadership and people management skills, including supervision. You will be joining an innovative team and will be required to demonstrate a strong commitment to service development, audit and research.
We are passionate about developing staff, you will have access to peer support and supervision from the Team Leads and will be supported to attend courses and training.

To provide clinical assessment for complex patients including standardised and non-standardised assessments
To implement patient centred treatment plans including rehabilitation and discharge planning
To carry out home assessments in the patient’s usual place of residence.
To demonstrate excellent communication skills with staff, patients and carers, demonstrating a tailored approach to each individual
To design and deliver training and development of junior members of staff to develop clinical skills. There is an expectancy that the successful candidate will play a lead role in this area.
To support a busy team of Physios, OTs, TAs, and APs alongside team leaders.
To organise and contribute to in-service training programmes for staff and students, and the wider MDT.
To support with data collection and performance monitoring of the clinical areas and use this data to identify areas of the service needing development.
To provide supervision, support and appraisal to bands 5-3 and students
To be responsible for your own competence to practice through continuous professional development activities and yearly appraisal.
The successful candidate must be able to work flexibly to meet service demands including a possible future seven-day service.
Part time applications will be considered.
Offers of employment may be made for a Band 6 training post under Annex 21 AFC terms and conditions.

- Post registration experience in a junior rotational post providing a broad experience in musculoskeletal / medical surgical conditions
- Evidence of a contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Evidence of the advanced skills required to plan complex and rapid discharges
Knowledge

- Evidence of sound clinical knowledge and specialist skills relevant to the clinical caseload
- Broad knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy
- Have an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
