Job overview
Here at Royal Hospital we have an exciting opportunity for an 18-month fixed term full-time training post in Echocardiography.
This is part of the Echocardiography Training Programme developed by the National School of Healthcare Science and funded by NHS England.
Successful ETP trainees will be trained to BSE accreditation level 2 and will be awarded a Post graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography.

You must hold a Undergraduate honours degree [1st or 2.1 class] in cardiac physiology or a relevant scientific subject.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- You will become proficient in adult echocardiography.
- You will report echocardiograms in line with BSE standards
- You will successfully complete the PG cert certification in echocardiography
- You will complete and pass all parts of the BSE level 2 exam within the 18 month period

- Proven/demonstrable ability to analyse and assess scientific, technical and medical literature
- Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application in a healthcare setting.
- Have an understanding of quality control and management assurance in a science or work based context.
- Ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of their own work and under the guidance of their Departmental Supervisors.
- Knowledge acquired through study and experience to formulate appropriate advice and judgements, including clinical judgements involving facts or situations that impact on patients
- Good understanding of ethics and professional practice, the NHS constitution and the importance of patient-centred care
Desirable criteria
- A committed, in depth interest in Echocardiography and its application to direct clinical care of patients in a clinical environment
- Ability to use, maintain and troubleshoot scientific equipment
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
