Consultant Haematopathologist

Consultant

Job overview

Consultant Haematopathologist (One WTE post for 11PAs) for the Haemato-oncology Diagnostic Service (HODS)

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and forward thinking Histopathologist, with specialist expertise/interest in Haematopathology, ideally early to mid-career, to join our  team of consultants with potential opportunities for management roles within the team, research and teaching. The posts would suit either a first-time consultant or an early-stage consultant Histopathologist wishing to relocate.

You will have a strong background or interest (in case of a first-time consultant) in Haematopathology and be a team player, who is able to work seamlessly together with colleagues in a collegiate and considerate manner, enabling a productive service.  Ideally, the candidate should be within five years of histopathology training completion (CCT) in the UK or equivalent outside the UK.

Candidates will be expected to have relevant expertise in Haematopathology or be willing to specialise in this area.

The Haemato-oncology Diagnostic Service for the Merseyside & Cheshire Cancer Network (MCCN) is the only NICE IOG 2016 (NG 47) peer review compliant service in the NW of England and is a state-of art dynamic facility with a national profile.

Main duties of the job

The service carries out primary reporting of haematological malignancies in line with NICE-IOG 2016 guidance as well as the WHO Classification, including all modalities of testing on liquid and solid samples. The unit is also involved in innovation and research both internally and external (including industrial) partners.

Job duties

This is a dynamic service and is at the cutting edge of science in the specialty. You will be supported by a well-established, experienced, collegiate and friendly specialist reporting team. For a first-time consultant, support to develop skills in specialist haematopathology will be provided by the team for a period of 12-18 months.

The appointees, in collaboration with the other Consultants will be expected to fulfil the duties detailed in Job description which can be found in our job pack, attached in the supporting documents. The ability to work as part of a team in a collegiate manner is a key requirement.

We advocate lean principles and have a successful and efficient system of working including a degree of flexible working within the limitations of the service.
