Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical Specialist Nurse within St. Paul's Eye Unit, Aintree.
The position is within the Ophthalmic Acute Referral Service (OARS) to triage all referrals from community, other hospitals and Emergency departments
The post holder must be flexible in their working pattern
It is essential that the applicant has at least 2 years’ experience working within an Ophthalmic setting and have the ophthalmic qualification
Main duties of the job
Triage patients via phone calls / ADT referral system. Provide advice and accept referrals to/from community Opticians, GP's and wards. Liaise with specialty services within ophthalmology and arrange multiple appointments. Provide advice to post-op patients. Triage phone calls from the Accident and Emergency department, provide advice / arrange appointments for patients to be seen and liaise with on call doctors. Arrange urgent / emergency surgery by liaising with Secretaries & Consultants

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-professional team, patients and carers within Ophthalmology.
The postholder will carry responsibility for offering specialist service advice, the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, management and education.
The postholder will contribute to achieving the objectives of the clinical service group / speciality corporate objectives and work within the clinical governance framework. This will be achieved through the core dimensions of the role, clinical practice, leadership, acting as the patient advocate and through audit and education.
