Advanced Clinical Pharmacist and Clinical Educator

NHS AfC: Band 8a

Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about developing others, committed to high standards of patient care, and motivated to innovate in both clinical and educational settings. You will join a supportive team within a large, multi-site pharmacy department, contributing to both undergraduate teaching and clinical service delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and forward-thinking pharmacist to combine clinical practice with a strong focus on education and training. Based at our Royal Liverpool Hospital site, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of pharmacy education through collaboration with the University of Liverpool, while also delivering advanced clinical pharmacy services within our Acute and Emergency Medicines team.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of hospital experiential learning (simulation and placements) for undergraduate pharmacy students across all four years of the MPharm programme.
  • Collaborate with the University of Liverpool Pharmacy Teaching Team to contribute to curriculum development, teaching, and assessment of clinical pharmacy skills.
  • Coordinate and quality-assure hospital placements, embedding Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and supporting placement supervisors through training and guidance.
  • Deliver an advanced clinical pharmacy service to patients in our Acute admissions areas and Emergency department. This will include medicines reconciliation, prescribing independently and as part of MDT ward rounds, medicines optimisation, and therapeutic drug monitoring.
  • Support the education and training of pharmacy undergraduates, trainee pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in clinical audit, guideline implementation, and service development initiatives.
  • Engage in continuing professional development and contribute to the strategic development of pharmacy education and clinical services.

Working for our organisation

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital & Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

We are part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, formed on 1 Nov 2024 from the coming together of LUHFT and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust. The Group was born from a shared aim to improve the care we provide our patients.

UHLG is one of the largest employers in the region, with over 16,800 colleagues dedicated to caring for our communities - from birth and beyond.

For the 630,000 people across Merseyside, we are their local NHS. We provide general and emergency hospital care, alongside highly specialised regional services for more than two million people in the North West.

Aintree University Hospital is the single receiving site for adult major trauma patients in Cheshire and Merseyside and hosts a number of regional services including an award-winning stroke facility. Broadgreen Hospital is home to elective surgical, diagnostic and treatment services, together with specialist patient rehabilitation. Liverpool Women’s Hospital specialises in the health of women and babies, delivering over 7,200 babies in the UK’s largest single site maternity hospital each year. The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.
