Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a divisional governance and assurance officer to work within the newly created Diagnostic Treatment Centre.

Reporting to the Head of Governance, the post holder will have a good understanding and knowledge of governance in a health care setting and will have responsibility for supporting all aspects of governance across their area of responsibility. This will include advice and support regarding incident and complaints management processes and clinical effectiveness. 

The post holder will have good analytical skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should have skills and experience of key governance and assurance principles. This role also requires individuals with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage their own workload without supervision within a busy environment.

 

Main duties of the job

Promote and facilitate the development of effective governance and 
assurance.

Provide support to key leaders within their area of responsibility in the delivery of their governance objectives. 

Support local identification of incidents requiring more detailed investigation or review

Support the effective monitoring of the Trust’s Risk, Incident and Complaints processes within their area of responsibility.

Provide leaders with regular data and reports that support them to take action and implement learning

Implement systems and processes for effective and proactive dissemination of information arising from investigations and reviews to promote the sharing of information and lessons learnt.

Act as local point of contact for the Datix system and ensure the
administrative requirements of incident, complaint and risk management 
process are met.

Provide support to the Head of Governance in the delivery of key governance objectives.

Work alongside colleagues in other key roles within the governance structure to ensure your areas of responsibility look at data and identify learning collaboratively.

Establish and maintain close working relationships with the Patient Advice and Complaints Team.

Establish and maintain close working relationships with Legal and Risk 
Managers established within the Trust.

Attend local meetings in relation to governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work closely with the leadership teams within Imaging, Pharmacy and Liverpool Clinical Laboratories promoting and facilitating the Quality Governance Framework within each service. Applicants should have a good understanding and knowledge of the Governance agenda across the NHS.

Reporting to the Head of Governance for the Diagnostic Treatment Centre, the post holder will have responsibility for supporting all aspects of governance across each service, including incident and complaint management, risk, and clinical audit and effectiveness processes.

  • Degree or equivalent

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of applying key governance and assurance principles
  • Demonstrable experience of risk & incident management in a health care setting

Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of risk management principles
Desirable criteria
  • Good understanding of the Governance agenda across the NHS
  • Knowledge of Risk, Clinical Audit & Effectiveness, Regulatory Compliance and Incident and Complaints management processes

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to carry out incident investigations
  • Ability to convert complex sensitive medical information into “layman’s terms”.
  • Ability to communicate with staff at all levels of the organisation and with patients.

  • Understanding of the Serious Incident Framework and Governance agenda
