Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine for 12 months. This is a part-time post attracting an initial 8 PA’s, including on call work (weekends and overnight non-resident on calls). 

 Applicants interested in working less than full time will be considered as this is an 8PA post.

Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, with licence to practise, and are required to hold membership of the Royal College of Physicians UK (or equivalent).  They should be listed on the Specialist Register for Respiratory Medicine or be due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.

Main duties of the job

The Post

This is a general Respiratory Medicine role with a wide range of inpatient and outpatient activities. Core duties include:

  • Post‑take ward rounds
  • Consultant responsibility for patients on a general respiratory inpatient ward
  • Provision of inpatient respiratory advice and referrals
  • Delivery of general respiratory outpatient clinics

By agreement, there are opportunities to develop specialist clinics aligned to service needs and individual interests. Participation in bronchoscopy sessions is available.

The post holder will join the consultant body within Aintree Chest Centre, one of the largest and most established respiratory units in the UK.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine for 12 months. This is a part-time post attracting an initial 8 PA’s, including on call work (weekends and overnight non-resident on calls). Applicants interested in working less than 8 PA’s will be considered. The job plan for this role is an example of a 10 PA role, the job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate when appointed.

 Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, with licence to practise, and are required to hold membership of the Royal College of Physicians UK (or equivalent).  They should be listed on the Specialist Register for Respiratory Medicine or be due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full registration with GMC
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
Desirable criteria
  • Higher research degree or in the process of obtaining a higher research degree

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • CCT in general respiratory or within 6 months of obtaining one at the time of interview
  • A sub speciality interest of asthma with relevant experience
  • Evidence of continuing medical education

Teaching and Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of delivering training and education
  • Evidence of delivery of education to both undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Teaching experience
  • Leadership and service development
  • Relevant experience in organisation and undertaking audit
  • Expertise in sub speciality field

Research / Audit

Desirable criteria
  • Understanding principles of research
  • Proven track record in research, publication of research
  • Proven track record in significant audit
