NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group and axess are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join our Sexual Health Service. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled autonomous practitioner to contribute to the delivery and development of high‑quality, evidence‑based sexual and reproductive healthcare.

About the role

The post holder will provide advanced clinical expertise within contraception and sexual and reproductive health, undertaking independent consultations and managing a defined caseload. You will deliver specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up care, ensuring timely, patient‑centred services.

You will play a key role in service development, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement, while supporting the education and development of the Clinical Practitioner Team and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have highly developed specialist skills and advanced
knowledge in contraception and sexual and reproductive health. As an
autonomous practitioner, undertake independent consultations with patients involving working in the clinical area with routine and specialist clinics; delivering high quality clinical services. The postholder will be expected to develop their skills and knowledge to the standard outlined in the Health Education England ‘Multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England’.


The postholder will be responsible for the education and development of the Clinical Practitioner Team to enable delivery of the service specification. The postholder will also contribute to the training and development of other health professionals as part of the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

  • To improve the experience and outcomes of care for patients by taking the lead in investigations and treatments prescribed.
  • To provide a consistent and personalised service by ensuring that the
    patients receive the best care, in the best place from the best person or team.
  • To provide social, emotional, and psychological support for patients from referral and throughout their treatment.
  • To deliver expert specialist evidence-based care including: development, assessment, planning, implementing, evaluating programmes of evidence based care for a defined caseload.
  • To make appropriate referral to consultants/other specialist/members of the multidisciplinary team in primary, secondary, or tertiary care settings.
  • To be aware of risk management issues both locally and nationally and develop strategies to address identified issues.

About You

Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • Registered clinical professional qualification at degree level

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline

  • Independent prescribing qualification

  • Relevant post‑registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health

  • Demonstrable experience within the speciality

  • Evidence of leadership, staff development and change management

  • Experience in audit and/or research activity

You will be an effective communicator with strong clinical decision‑making skills, committed to delivering high standards of care and acting as a positive role model within the service.
