Band 8a
Job overview
We are excited to announce a newly established full-time post for an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Urology at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. This role recognises the growing need for dedicated pharmacy input within the Urology service and offers a unique opportunity to shape and develop pharmaceutical care in this specialty.
As the first pharmacist in this role, you will play a pivotal part in embedding pharmacy expertise into the Urology multidisciplinary team. You will work closely with consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to optimise medicines use, improve patient outcomes, and contribute to innovative service development across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking pharmacist to build specialist knowledge in urology while influencing the future direction of pharmacy services in this area. You’ll be supported by a dynamic and experienced pharmacy team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
If you're looking for a fresh challenge in a progressive environment where your input will make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
- Support the development and implementation of a dedicated pharmacy service for the Urology department, working closely with the divisional lead pharmacist for surgery.
- Provide a safe, effective, and patient-centred advanced clinical pharmacy service to urology inpatients and outpatients at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
- Lead on medicines optimisation initiatives within urology, ensuring evidence-based prescribing and safe use of high-risk medicines, including those used in urological cancers, infections, and surgical care.
- Collaborate with urology consultants, specialist nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless medicines optimisation across the patient pathway.
- Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, and pathways relevant to urology, supporting best practice and innovation.
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and training to junior pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in relation to urology and medicines optimisation.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement, and research activities to evaluate and enhance pharmacy input into urology services.
- Act as a role model for excellent pharmaceutical care, demonstrating leadership, innovation, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
