Senior Pharmacy Clinical Trials Technician

Job overview

Come and join our friendly pharmacy clinical trials team.

The team provide pharmacy support for the expanding Research and Development work of the trust, with a large portfolio of studies requiring pharmacy input. 

We are involved in trials which cover many clinical specialties including ophthalmology, cardiology, gastroenterology and dermatology.

We are heavily involved in supporting the NIHR Royal Liverpool Clinical Research Facility in the conduct of first in human studies.

We work with external trial sponsors such as pharmaceutical companies, universities and local research units to ensure the correct and safe management of clinical trial medication.

You will be involved in the set up and management of upcoming studies.

You will also assist in the maintenance of trial drugs, dispensing and labelling clinical trial drugs, recording drug accountability and investigating any discrepancies and temperature monitoring of any areas storing clinical trial medication.

You will also meet with external trial representatives during their monitoring visits to discuss the conduct of the trials at site.

As Senior technician at the Royal site, you will be involved in the claiming of finance for pharmacy activity and the line management of staff.

Full training in our in-house procedures and policies will be given.

 You must be a qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC and have experience of working in Clinical Trials.  You must be an accredited accuracy checker

Main duties of the job

You will be based at the Royal Liverpool Hospital site with the pharmacy trials team.

Responsibilities will include

  • Dispensing and checking clinical trial prescriptions
  • Writing and checking of individual trial procedures
  • receipt and management of storage of investigational medicinal products
  • Manage pharmacy finance requests and invoicing
  • Line management responsibilities.
  • Support Clinical Research Facility when required
  • Support cross site if required
  • Weekend and late rotas in the main dispensary

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide and develop a comprehensive pharmacy clinical trials service to staff and patients of the trust and associated organisations
  • To manage the day to day activities of the pharmacy clinical trials service at the Royal site
  • To train and develop other members of staff in clinical trials
  • To co-operate fully in the provision of a comprehensive, safe and cost effective pharmaceutical service to the trust

  • Demonstrable post qualification experience with a period at a senior level
  • Training of pharmacy staff
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical aspects of organising and running clinical trials
  • Delivery of pharmacy technical services in a broad range of departmental specialist areas
