Main duties of the job

This post is to strengthen the existing team of Gynaecologists at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital. The team provides care to women across Merseyside Cheshire North Wales, and the Isle of Man.

The successful candidate will play an important role in assisting with the provision of general gynaecology, including emergency gynaecology, outpatient general and special interest gynaecology clinics as well as inpatient elective gynaecological surgery both major and minimal access.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead on the development of new pathway and support the senior management team in shaping the future strategy of the gynaecology services within a special tertiary centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver patient care within the following areas:

General gynaecology outpatient clinics and special interest clinics. Special interest clinic may include Ambulatory / Colposcopy / Vulva / Menopause / Endometriosis / Urgent Suspected Cancer depending on skills and interests of successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide surgical care in elective (day care and in-patient) and emergency set-up.

The successful candidate will participate in provision of emergency gynaecology. This will include on call out of hours as well as being a part of ‘hot week’ team for general gynaecology.

Successful candidate will be invited to contribute to medical education for undergraduate and postgraduate doctors.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • MRCOG or equivalent CCST
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by the date of AAC)
  • Entry to the GMC specialist register or eligible for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Desirable criteria
  • Additional postgraduate qualifications e.g. MD/PhD/MSC

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Work independently in outpatient clinics and theatre
  • ATSMs: Benign abdominal surgery, open and laparascopic OR the advanced laparoscopic surgery for the excision of benign disease OR gynaecological oncology
  • SITMs: Gynaecological Surgical care AND/OR Management of complex non-malignant disease AND/OR Oncology
Desirable criteria
  • ATSMs: Acute gynaecology and early pregnancy. Benign gynaecological surgery: hysterectomy. Colposcopy, menopause, vulval disease
  • SITMs: Chronic pelvic pain, Colposcopy, Complex early and non-elective gynaecology, Menopause care, Therapeutic, Hysteroscopy, Vulval disease
