Consultant Obstetrician High-Risk Pregnancy and Recurrent Miscarriage

Consultant

Liverpool Women’s NHS FT became part of NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG) in November 2024, following the coming together with Liverpool University Hospitals NHS FT. UHLG was born from a shared aim to improve the care we provide to our patients.

UHLG is one of the largest employers in the region, with over 16,800 colleagues who are dedicated to caring for our communities - from birth and beyond. For the 630,000 people across Merseyside, UHLG is also their local NHS, providing general and emergency hospital care, alongside highly specialised regional services for more than two million people in the North West.

At Liverpool Women’s Hospital, each year we deliver approximately 7,500 babies, carry out around 50,000 gynaecological inpatient and outpatient procedures, care for over 1,000 poorly and premature newborns, perform around 1,000 IVF cycles, and conduct over 4,000 genetic appointments.

We believe that this, along with a strong dedication to research and innovation, makes us the specialist health provider of choice in Europe for women, babies and families.

Liverpool Women’s has an excellent reputation and is a centre of excellence. It is an exciting environment to work in and a great place to develop your career for many years to come.

Liverpool Women’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (LWHFT) is looking for a dynamic and inspiring Consultant Obstetrician to join our team to enhance obstetric services at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust (LWHFT) and further develop our partnership working with the other NHS providers across the city. Liverpool Women’s Hospital is one of the largest purpose-built maternity units in Europe.

The Trust manages approximately 8,000 deliveries per annum, houses the regional Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, the regional clinical genomics department, and an on-site gynaecological emergency room. LWHFT is the tertiary referral unit for Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Gynaecological Oncology, Reproductive Medicine and Urogynaecology, with subspeciality training programmes in these fields. The University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is also located on this site. LWHFT is one of three Maternal Medicine Centre’s in the Northwest

The post will provide whole time consultant level commitment to obstetrics services and partial commitment to the Gynaecology service at the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust (at the Crown Street and University Hospital Aintree sites).

The is a permanent substantive post to support the existing team of obstetricians and early pregnancy loss/recurrent miscarriage consultants who provide specialised antenatal clinics, intrapartum and postnatal care. LWHFT currently provides services to women across Cheshire, Merseyside, and North Wales.

LWHFT facilitates a highly successful recurrent miscarriage and early pregnancy loss service as part of the gynaecology provision. This is run by consultants and specialist nurses, and we would expect the successful candidate to provide additional consultant commitment to this area of work
The expectation is that the post holder will provide regular antenatal clinics, which is open to discussion, that serves both the individual and the requirements of the service but are likely to include high-risk pregnancy, multiple pregnancy and recurrent miscarriage and early pregnancy loss clinics

We would aspire that the successful candidate would take on a shared role in the leadership element of fetal surveillance training, education and delivery which attracts an additional 1 PA of job planned activity
