We have an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our innovative and forward thinking team of Allied Health Professionals at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

As one of the UKs leading Cancer Centres, we provide highly specialist cancer care to a population of over 2.7 million people across Cheshire and Merseyside, and surrounding areas including North Wales and the Isle of Man.

We are seeking a suitably experienced Occupational Therapist who demonstrates our Trust values of being: Kind, Empowered, Inclusive and Responsible. You will have a varied and diverse caseload, supporting our Oncology patients to live well, with and beyond Cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The successful applicant will be supported by our wider Occupational Therapy team, consisting of 2.5 Band 7s, 2.5 Band 6s, plus Therapy Assistants who work across our OT and Physiotherapy. You will receive comprehensive induction and training, regular peer support, in service training and regular clinical supervision and appraisals. 

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is committed to flexible ways of working that balance the needs of our patients and our staff. The successful candidate will be based at our Liverpool site, which was newly opened in 2020 and provides a modern work environment

 

Main duties of the job

Our Band 6 Occupational Therapists are crucial members of the team, providing high quality, evidence based Occupational Therapy interventions for people living with Cancer. Duties may include:

·         Conducting comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments such as baseline assessments, functional assessments, cognitive assessments

·         Developing and implementing individualised and holistic treatment plans in conjunction with patients

·         Assessing environmental risks and prescription of equipment and adaptations to support patients to live well at home

·         Taking a key role in organising and facilitating discharge planning

·         Representing the Occupational Therapy team in Multidisciplinary team meetings and Boardrounds

·         Promoting the OT role through training of the wider Multidisciplinary team

·         Maintaining a high standard of clinical record keeping in accordance with HCPC guidelines

·         Adhering to local and national guidelines and protocols

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree OR Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of working with patients with physical health conditions
  • Ability to conduct and analyse standardised and non standardised assessment tools with Occupational Therapy
  • Ability to assess for and prescribe or advise on adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and wheelchairs
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Awareness of occupational therapy equipment and clinical reason(s) for use
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of Occupational Therapy process within the field of Oncology
  • Knowledge of orthotics and/or splinting principles and availability to prevent deformity and manage pain and function
  • Experience working in outpatients setting

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Varied post registration clinical experience working with patients with physical health conditions
  • Experience in supervision / mentoring of junior staff, assistants and students
Desirable criteria
  • Oncology and/or palliative care experience
  • Experience of acute inpatient care of people experiencing neurological or orthopaedic deficits
  • Participation in audit
  • Experience working with a varied MDT
