Please note that we are seeking Oncology and Haemato-oncology Consultant Pharmacists - 2 FTE available. 

We are looking for an exceptional pharmacist to join our team as Consultant Pharmacist for Oncology Services. The successful applicant will be a collaborative team player with significant clinical leadership experience at a senior level. They will be able to articulate a clear strategy for the delivery of Oncology pharmacy services both locally and across the wider healthcare system, and will be committed to advancing research and innovation in this specialty.

This post has been recognised by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) as a Consultant Pharmacist position.

Applications are welcomed from both established Consultant Pharmacists and aspiring pharmacists who are working towards accreditation.

Pharmacists who have not yet completed their credentialing will initially join as a Senior Advanced Pharmacist – Oncology, and upon successful credentialing, will be awarded the Consultant Pharmacist title.

Credentialing Requirement:
You must be credentialed with the RPSGB as a Consultant Pharmacist. If not already credentialed, you must achieve this within 2 years of starting the role.

Main duties of the job

Act as a Consultant Pharmacist for Oncology across the Cheshire and Merseryside region, collaborating with local healthcare organisations to influence the strategic management of medicines used in oncology.

Work with Integrated Care Board (ICB) partners and other stakeholders to shape and optimise oncology prescribing practices across the local healthcare system.

Provide expert clinical training, mentorship, and supervision to the multidisciplinary team in areas relevant to oncology, supporting continuous professional development.

Evaluate the clinical and economic impact of medicines use in oncology, develop and implement evidence-based clinical guidelines, monitor drug expenditure, and support services in achieving clinical and financial targets.

Collaborate with Associate Director of Pharmacy and Principal Pharmacists to advance pharmacy clinical services and provide strategic leadership in medicines optimisation across the Trust and region

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Completed their Credentialing (or working towards it), awarded by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • The title of “Consultant Pharmacist” can only be used once the post-holder has been credentialed, in line with NHS guidance
  • Master’s degree in pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Membership of the British Oncology Pharmacy Association
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy
  • Independent Prescriber
Desirable criteria
  • Foundation management training
  • Formal teaching training
  • DPharm, PhD or undertaking study at doctorate level
  • Postgraduate studies in SACT

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Advanced specialist knowledge in SACT acquired working as a cancer pharmacist in Oncology
  • Expert at undertaking change management
  • Report and business case writing for a Board level audience
  • Sound understanding of political agendas and able to work successfully in a political environment
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates financial planning skills
  • Work at a national level
  • Understanding of health economics
  • Understanding of NHS structure, systems and politics

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A majority of competencies in each of the expert professional practice, collaborative working relationships and leadership clusters at the highest level (mastery) as defined in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Advanced Pharmacy Framework (APF)
  • A majority of the competencies in each of the management, education, training and development and research and evaluation clusters at the Advanced Stage 2 as defined in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Advanced Pharmacy Framework (APF)
  • Development of guidelines concerning medicine use for trust wide application
  • Audit projects involving multidisciplinary audience
  • Project leadership skills in highly complex projects and change management skills
Desirable criteria
  • Management experience
  • Experience in community pharmacy or primary care
  • Relevant publications in a range of peer review journals
  • Experience supervising Advanced Pharmacists including within prescribing clinics
