Job overview

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) provides excellent cancer care to patients in the North West (including North Wales and the Isle of Man). We have 3 site locations; the central Liverpool site and hub sites in the Wirral and Aintree. Inpatient services, including 2 wards, bone marrow transplant service and the regional Teenage and Young Adult unit (supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust) are located at our Liverpool site.

It is an exciting time for the Pharmacy Production unit at CCC-Liverpool, which has recently obtained an MHRA specials licence. The department is developing batch production through the use of VHP gassing Isolator technology.  We are looking for enthusiastic, forward thinking and experienced candidates to join our friendly and dedicated team. 

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will have an BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for  Pharmacy Technicians  or equivalent qualification to register as a Pharmacy Technician with GPhC.

**Pre-registration Pharmacy technicians qualifying Summer 2025 will be considered**

In summary you will:

  • Participate in the accurate dispensing of SACT in isolators using aseptic techniques
  • Ensures all work carried out complies with standards laid down in the latest edition of the ‘guide to Good Manufacturing Practice’ and Health and Safety Guidelines for hazardous toxic exposure to provide a comprehensive and timely chemotherapy service for network patients
  • Assembling and checking raw materials and components for dispensing SACT’s
  • Checking and confirming accurate measurement of cytotoxic and monoclonal drug prior to dispensing into an infusion bag, infuser pump or final syringe when used as a container
  • Organise the medicine supply for in-patients at CCC
  • Participate in medicines management initiatives such as patient medication counselling when accredited
  • Disposal of unwanted medicines as per Trust procedure
  • Assist in maintaining adequate stocks of materials required for dispensing SACT’s and ensure correct stock rotation.
  • To reduce chemotherapy drug wastage by optimising re-dispensing of chemotherapy both intravenous and oral.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Society
  • NVQ Level 3 / BTEC in Pharmacy Services or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Portfolio demonstrating competence and CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake preparation of medicines requiring fine and accurate motor skills and concentration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Full time equivalent post qualification pharmacy practice experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate routine information effectively using clear written and appropriate formats
  • Demonstrated basic pharmacy computer IT skills i.e. accurate data entry
