Job overview

The Ward housekeeper will work as an essential part of the ward team under the direction/guidance of the Sister/Charge Nurse or his/her nominated deputy. The focus of the role is to support the nursing team with non-clinical tasks, ensure the cleanliness of the clinical areas of the department is maintained to a very high level and help maintain a safe, clean, comfortable environment for patients.

Main duties of the job

Being courteous and helpful to patients, families, colleagues and all users and visitors to the ward.

Provide refreshments to patients and families where appropriate.

Support ward team by underlying tasks to enhance patient care i.e. collection of laundry, pharmacy, etc.

Ensuring the bed space is prepared for the arrival of a new admission to the ward i.e. checking the area is clean, rubbish removed etc.

Maintain a safe environment in conjunction with other staff

Report any damaged equipment and required maintenance repairs to estates.

Ensure required equipment is available for use and support ward staff in sourcing temporary required equipment if other is unavailable

Ensure store rooms are clean and tidy and equipment/stock is appropriately stored
