Job overview

To lead the  team, organise the patients care
Report to any issues and risks to our patients and staff in appropriate ways 
Ensure that all local and trust wide polices and procedure are followed 
lead a  multi-disciplinary team approach in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders.
Lead in  training of other all team members 
Control and co-ordinate activities of the ward team in the absence of Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

Maintain and support high standards of nursing care and review these standards with the Ward Manager.
Assist all staff to understand their role in the unit team.

 Be aware of the economic use of ward equipment and stores.
Undertake Audits to support IPC, CDS and medications managements  Ensure adequate security, administration, proper use and recording of dangerous drugs in accordance with hospital policy.
Ensure teams collective  knowledge of new equipment being used.
Furthering own professional development and that of others  by ensuring that own clinical and professional knowledge is widened and enriched by attending study days and seminars as arranged through the in-service training officers.
Ensure confidentiality at all times. The post holder’s attention is drawn to the Data Protection Act 1984.
Support ward manager in all duties to support and promote excellent patient care, patient flow and experience.  

Main duties of the job

To support a large team with in 29 bedded acute  neurology ward, 3 of these beds are for the assessment of Seizure . 

To co ordinate our team on a daily basis, escalting staff and patients issues. 

Plan  safe staffing/skills and patients care need and attend meetings  ward/board rounds.

To support ward vision and ward management  team and retain GOLD  accreditation. 

Plan training and education support for team. To ensure ward routine is safe and appropriately co coordinated. 

To administer specialised infusions and neurology assessments of treatment  

Complete Audits ward review and investigations. 

Support excellent communication throughout the team

To investigate and complete datix following PSIF principles

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Basic life support and ‘extended clinical skills
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised teaching/ mentorship qualification

Knowledge & Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience in an acute adult setting.
