An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the occupational therapy team at The Walton Centre, the UK’s only stand-alone neurosciences NHS Trust, delivering a range of specialist services to a population of 3.5 million people across Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire, the Isle of Man and North Wales. The post sits within The Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network (CMRN) a unique collaborative integrated pathway delivered via a hub and spoke model providing specialist rehabilitation to patients who have suffered traumatic injury or illness dependent on need and not diagnosis. 

We require a suitably experienced, well motivated and dynamic occupational therapist who is able to demonstrate a range skills to join our rehabilitation inpatient team. Working within a multi-professional team you will gain excellent specialist experience within the field of neurological, neurosurgery, and pt with complex rehabilitation needs. 

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for providing specialist assessment and rehabilitation for patients who have complex presentation.

Carry a complex caseload

To support the Rehabilitation pathway and to liaise with the Hub, Spokes and Extended Rehabilitation to facilitate a seamless discharge for patients from the Network inpatient facilities.

An effective team player, with excellent organisational skills with an interest in audit and research and a commitment to continuing professional development and will provide training and supervision to junior staff and undergraduate/pre-registration students.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registered member of Royal College of Occupational Therapy and the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Experience of complex rehab/neuro and as well as established OT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of Professional practice educator’s qualification.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of current NHS issues and relevant frame work / quality indicators
  • Knowledge of current DH guidance
  • Ability to initiate and apply evidence based practice within a clinical area
  • Able to manage own time within clinical and non-clinical activity and to guide others using problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Take an active role within a multidisciplinary practice.
  • Evidence of Clinical Audit
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of clinical governance and its application within Occupational Therapy / Rehabilitation.
  • Able to write, implement and audit policies.
  • Ability to provide specialist high quality clinical intervention that is evidence based
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • A positive attitude to change and flexible working practices to meet changing service demands.
  • Ability to manage own stress and stress in others.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to use basic IT systems, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective presentation and education skills.
