Job overview

The Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist will work within the Infection Prevention and Control Team and is responsible for deputising in the management of the Tissue Viability Service Lead within the Trust. The post holder will work in partnership with clinical services to provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the specialty of tissue viability 

The post holder will ensure an evidence-based approach to all aspects of tissue viability including specialist assessment, treatment and management of patients and the education, training and development of specialist skills of clinical staff.

The post holder will support the patient safety agenda including the use of root cause analysis and sharing of learning to promote continuous quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with and support of support of the Tissue Viability Clinical Lead across the Trust to ensure that all patients, relatives and staff have access to specialist Tissue Viability care and support.

The post holder will promote the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising and utilising research and collaborating with colleagues in every day practice.  The post holder will be responsible for the provisions of specialist advice and management plans for patients with complex care needs.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First Level Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC/HCPC registration
  • First level degree
  • Post registration qualification (level 6/7) in tissue viability
  • Teaching and assessing/mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification in relevant subject
  • Non-Medical Prescriber

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 5 years post registration
  • Broad range of clinical experience in tissue viability or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across professional health care boundaries
  • Proven critical decision making skills
  • Ability to manage and achieve objectives
  • Experience of audit and surveillance, interpreting data and producing written reports
  • Participation in Trust wide service development and implementation of change
  • Evidence of ongoing/recent post registration development
  • Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
  • Participation in the purchase and supplies of medical equipment
  • Participation in contract/ tendering process for services involving tissue viability
  • Evidence of experience of change management in which a defined and proven outcome has been identified
  • Experience of involvement in developing & reviewing guidelines/protocols and care pathways
Desirable criteria
  • Thorough understanding of recent government strategies and their effects on the provision of service to patients, service users and NHS organisations
