Job overview

Working under the direction of the Infant Feeding Coordinator the post holder will be responsible for the provision of breastfeeding promotion to prospective and new parents to increase the initiation and duration of breastfeeding for those mothers for whom breastfeeding is their preferred method.

To assist the Health Visitor in providing on to one support to both in a home setting and within Children’s Centres for parents who choose to breastfeed to encourage mothers to breastfeed for longer.

To facilitate antenatal and postnatal Cherubs support groups to provide ongoing peer support and an opportunity for health promotion.

Main duties of the job

Provide one to one support both in a home setting, over the phone and within Children’s Centres for parents who choose to breastfeed to encourage mothers to breastfeed for longer. 

To facilitate antenatal, postnatal and ongoing support and an opportunity for health promotion.

Contribute to the promotion of a positive breastfeeding culture, working with partner agencies to increase awareness with local groups.

Carry out audits with parents around their chosen feeding method.

Qualifications and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of appropriate infant feeding training
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • NVQ Level3 or equivalent in a health related subject
  • Computer literacy
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of support breastfeeding mothers over a 12 month period
  • Experience of working in partnership with parents/families and other health and social care services
  • Experience of team/multi-agency work
  • Evidence of support breastfeeding mothers over a 12 month period
  • Experience of working with children
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in audit in relation to project management
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience in facilitating learning of others
