Physiotherapist - Pelvic Health
Band 6 Fixed Term 12-Months
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist in Pelvic Health.
PPHS was introduced as part of the NHS Long Term Plan and Maternity Transformation Programme, with a national requirement for every Local Maternity System (LMS) to create a Perinatal Pelvic Health Service.

Provide specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a designated caseload, using advanced clinical reasoning.

Manage patients with complex presentations, adjusting and developing treatment programmes accordingly.

Work autonomously to deliver evidence-based physiotherapy within PPHS pathways (e.g., MSK, community rehab, rapid response, long-term condition management).

Contribute to early intervention, prevention, and self-management programmes in line with PPHS goals.

Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, case conferences and joint clinics to ensure coordinated care.

Maintain high standards of documentation in line with HCPC and local policies

Our services:
Acute Care
Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.
Primary Care
Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.
Community Services
Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Clinical Duties
- Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments, including detailed history, physical examination, outcome measures, and risk assessments.
- Manage a complex, diverse clinical caseload independently, prioritising appropriately and modifying management as needed.
- Formulate and deliver individualised evidence-based treatment plans, using advanced clinical reasoning.
- Provide specialist interventions such as:
- Manual therapy
- Exercise rehabilitation
- Self-management planning
- Falls prevention strategies
- Long-term condition management
- Respiratory physiotherapy (if part of local PPHS scope)
- Behaviour change and lifestyle advice
- Participate in and lead multidisciplinary team (MDT) work, contributing to integrated care plans and joint reviews.
- Support early identification of deterioration and contribute to acute-avoidance pathways where applicable.
- Ensure all clinical documentation is completed to HCPC, CSP, and Trust standards.
2. Planned & Preventative Health Service (PPHS) Responsibilities
- Deliver physiotherapy that aligns with PPHS principles of:
- Early intervention
- Preventing functional decline
- Supporting independence
- Reducing hospital admissions
- Empowering self-management
- Provide group-based and 1:1 rehabilitation programmes where needed (e.g., falls, strength & balance, prehabilitation).
- Work collaboratively with other PPHS professionals to streamline referral pathways and enhance patient flow.
- Contribute to health promotion strategies such as physical activity, pain management education, and lifestyle modification.
- Participate in outreach programmes including home visits, community clinics, and virtual consultations.
3. Leadership & Team Responsibilities
- Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and support for Band 5 physiotherapists, students, assistants and other junior staff.
- Assist in the induction and training of new staff members.
- Lead or support in-service training sessions, case discussions and CPD events.
- Act as a role model for professional behaviour, high clinical standards, and compassionate practice.
4. Service Development & Quality Improvement
- Contribute to audit, research, outcome measurement, and development of clinical guidelines.
- Identify and implement service improvement initiatives, supporting PPHS efficiency and accessibility.
- Participate in service evaluation, feedback processes, and innovation to enhance patient experience.
- Assist with data collection, performance reporting, and maintaining quality standards required by the Trust.
